Building a lifetime of healthy smiles
The habits and attitudes children develop about dental health in their early years shape whether they will take care of their teeth as adults. At Carewell Dental, we welcome children from their very first tooth and create an environment where dental visits feel routine and positive — not frightening.
Our clinic in Sentul, Jalan Ipoh is a family-friendly space. We take time with every child — explaining in simple language what we are doing, letting them explore instruments before use, and always going at their pace. Parents are always welcome to stay with their child throughout the appointment.
What to expect at each age
First Visit
We count the teeth, check for early decay, and guide parents on brushing technique, fluoride toothpaste, and diet. The goal is familiarity — no instruments if the child is not ready.
Checkup & Fluoride
Six-monthly checkups establish a routine. Fluoride varnish is applied to strengthen enamel. Early decay is treated conservatively to avoid the need for extraction.
Fissure Sealants
As first permanent molars erupt (around age 6), we place fissure sealants — thin protective coatings that seal deep grooves before decay can start. Highly recommended at this age.
Orthodontic Monitoring
We monitor eruption of all permanent teeth and assess for crowding or bite issues. Early referral for braces or aligners if needed, plus reinforced brushing habits for teenagers.
Children's dental services at Carewell
Checkup & X-ray
Thorough examination of teeth, gums, bite, and jaw development. Low-dose X-rays when clinically indicated.
Fluoride Varnish
A quick, painless fluoride application that strengthens enamel and protects against cavities. Recommended every 6 months.
Fissure Sealants
Protective resin coating sealed into the deep grooves of new molars. Prevents the most common location for childhood decay.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings
Composite fillings for primary teeth — tooth-coloured, mercury-free, and minimal in size to preserve as much tooth structure as possible.
Oral Hygiene Education
Hands-on brushing technique guidance for the child and parent. Dietary advice specific to the child's age to reduce cavity risk.
Eruption & Orthodontic Review
Monitoring of tooth eruption patterns and early identification of crowding issues before they require complex correction.
Children's dental fees
Children's checkups, fluoride treatments, and basic fillings are competitively priced. Many family panel plans include dependent children's dental benefits. Bring your child's panel card and we will verify their entitlement before the appointment.

When should my child first visit the dentist? add
The first dental visit is recommended when the first tooth appears, or by the child's first birthday — whichever comes first. Early visits familiarise children with the dental environment in a non-threatening way and allow us to check tooth development and guide parents on brushing and diet.
Baby teeth will fall out anyway — do they really need treating? add
Yes. Decayed baby teeth cause pain, infection, and can damage the permanent teeth developing beneath them. They also hold space for permanent teeth — premature loss causes crowding. Treating decay in baby teeth is important for the child's comfort and long-term dental health.
How do you manage dental anxiety in children? add
We use a tell-show-do approach: explaining each step in child-friendly language, showing the instrument, and then proceeding slowly. We never rush a child. For nervous children, we recommend booking a short introductory visit first before any treatment so they can get comfortable with the chair and the team.
When should my child start using fluoride toothpaste? add
Children under 3 years old should use a smear (rice-grain size) of low-fluoride toothpaste. From age 3 to 6, a pea-sized amount of age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste is recommended. Children should be supervised when brushing until at least age 7–8 to ensure they are brushing correctly and not swallowing toothpaste.
Is children's dental treatment covered by insurance? add
Many family panel plans include dental coverage for dependant children. Carewell Dental is a panel clinic for AIA Berhad, HealthMetrics, PM Care, Red Alert, ASP Medical Group, Health Connect, MediLink-Global, and E-MAS. Bring the child's panel card and we will verify their entitlement before the appointment.
