What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over 3 to 6 months, the bone grows around the post in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable, permanent anchor. A custom ceramic crown is then attached on top, completing the replacement.
Unlike dentures or bridges, an implant does not rely on adjacent teeth for support and does not sit on the gum surface. This means it preserves jawbone density, feels completely natural when biting and speaking, and requires no special removal or soaking routine.
Carewell Dental performs implant assessments and placements at our clinic in Sentul, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, providing the full treatment journey from initial X-rays through to crown fitting.
How the implant process works
Consultation & Assessment
We take dental X-rays and assess bone density, gum health, and your medical history. Any active infection or gum disease is treated before proceeding.
Implant Placement
Under local anaesthesia, the titanium post is placed into the jawbone. The gum is closed over the site. This visit takes approximately 60–90 minutes.
Healing & Osseointegration
The implant fuses with the bone over 3–6 months. Most patients resume normal daily activities within a few days. A review appointment checks healing progress.
Crown Fitting
Once osseointegration is confirmed, a custom ceramic crown is fabricated to match your natural teeth in shape and shade, then permanently attached to complete your smile.
Benefits of dental implants
Permanent & Stable
Fixed in bone — no movement, no adhesive, no removal. Bite with full confidence.
Natural Appearance
The crown is shade-matched to your existing teeth. Most people cannot tell which tooth is the implant.
Preserves Jawbone
The implant stimulates bone just like a natural root, preventing the bone loss that typically follows tooth loss.
No Impact on Adjacent Teeth
Unlike a bridge, the implant is self-supporting. Neighbouring teeth are left completely intact.
Long-Lasting Investment
With proper care, implants last 15–20+ years. The titanium post is often a lifetime solution.
Easy Maintenance
Clean exactly like natural teeth — brush, floss, and attend regular scaling appointments.

How long do dental implants last? add
With proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants can last 15–20 years or longer. The titanium post itself is often a lifetime solution; the porcelain crown may need replacement after 10–15 years depending on wear and bite forces.
Is the procedure painful? add
The placement is done under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during surgery. Mild soreness, swelling, and bruising are normal for 2–5 days after and are effectively managed with prescribed pain relief. Most patients find the discomfort far less than they anticipated.
How long does the full treatment take? add
The complete process typically spans 4–9 months from consultation to crown fitting. The majority of this time is the healing period during osseointegration (3–6 months) — you are not visiting the clinic every week. Day-to-day life is largely unaffected during this period.
Am I a good candidate for implants? add
Good candidates have one or more missing teeth, sufficient bone density, and healthy gums. Conditions like low bone volume or gum disease can often be treated before proceeding. A clinical assessment including X-rays at Carewell Dental will confirm your suitability and outline the exact treatment plan.
Are implants covered by insurance in Malaysia? add
Coverage varies by policy. Carewell Dental is a panel clinic for AIA Berhad, HealthMetrics, PM Care, Red Alert, ASP Medical Group, Health Connect, MediLink-Global, and E-MAS. Contact us with your policy details and we will check your entitlement before your appointment.
