Persistent Jaw Pain
Throbbing pain at the back of the jaw, especially when chewing or opening wide, is a classic sign of an impacted wisdom tooth pressing against the second molar or bone.
Swollen, Bleeding Gum Flap
A partially erupted wisdom tooth creates a gum flap (operculum) that traps food and bacteria, causing pericoronitis — recurring swelling, tenderness, and a bad taste.
Decay or Damage Next Door
An impacted wisdom tooth pressing against the second molar can cause decay in both teeth. An X-ray will show this clearly, and extraction prevents the loss of the valuable second molar.
Repeated Infections
Antibiotics provide temporary relief but do not solve the underlying problem. If infections recur, the wisdom tooth is the root cause and should be removed to stop the cycle.
The removal process, step by step
X-ray Assessment
A panoramic or periapical X-ray reveals the tooth's position, root shape, and proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve, so we plan the safest removal route.
Deep Anaesthesia
The area is fully numbed with a nerve block. We wait until you confirm complete numbness before making any incision.
Surgical Removal
A small incision exposes the tooth. Bone may be gently removed and the tooth sectioned into pieces for easier removal. The socket is cleaned and sutured.
Aftercare & Healing
You receive written aftercare instructions and medication. Dissolvable sutures dissolve in 7–10 days. Most patients recover fully within 1–2 weeks.
What to do after wisdom tooth removal
Ice Pack First 24 hrs
Apply an ice pack to the cheek in 15-minute intervals to minimise swelling for the first day.
Soft Diet 3–5 Days
Soft rice, porridge, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, and soup. Avoid seeds, nuts, and hard food that can enter the socket.
Warm Salt Rinse Day 2+
From day 2, rinse gently with warm saline after meals to keep the socket clean. Do not rinse vigorously on day 1.
Complete the Antibiotics
Complete the full antibiotic course as prescribed — do not stop early even if you feel better.
Avoid Smoking 72 hrs
Smoking dramatically increases the risk of dry socket — a painful complication where the blood clot dislodges.
Call Us if Concerned
Worsening pain after day 3, fever, or an unpleasant smell from the socket are signs of dry socket or infection — call us immediately.

A straightforward wisdom tooth removal takes 20–45 minutes per tooth including anaesthesia. A deeply impacted or horizontally positioned tooth may take up to 60 minutes. Multiple teeth can sometimes be removed in the same appointment.
How long is the recovery? add
Most patients return to light work or study within 1–2 days. Swelling peaks at around day 2–3 and resolves within 5–7 days. Full soft tissue healing takes 2–4 weeks. Bone healing takes several months but does not affect daily life.
